Shillong, Sep. 21. Student Salesians pursuing different degrees in North-eastern Hill University and its affiliated Colleges in Shillong  had their annual meet at Don Bosco Provincial House Mathias Institute, Shillong on 12th and 13th September 2015. Fifteen brothers who belonged to different provinces (INC, IND, ING & INS) but were studying in Shillong attended the meet. The meeting, organised by Fr. Paul Olphindro Lyngkot, the Vice Provincial proved to be a much- needed opportunity for the brothers to sit back and reflect on their vocation as Salesians and the importance of their studies, to be more effective in their apostolate, keeping in mind the need of the provinces.
The evening of first day was spent in sharing experiences. The brothers, guided by the Vice Provincial, shared how it felt to be a student Salesian pursuing studies in non-religious settings. It was followed by a session by Fr. James Thyrniang, the economer. After Holy Mass, the next morning, Mrs. Mildred Iawphniaw, the General Secretary of Salesian Co-operator Shillong Province, talked to the brothers about the expectations of the lay people from the religious. She reminded them that they were missionaries in their places of study. And in the afternoon, Fr. Michael Makri took them through the world of social media - its importance, benefits and also dangers. Fr. Paul Olphindro Lyngkot, while evaluating the program together with its participants, exhorted them to be salt and light to their classmates and friends.
