Hyderabad, Jan. 15. In the midst of kite flying and merry making in Hyderabad city on Sankaranti Day, 15 children dressed in pink launched Action 2015 in Telangana State at a meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister, Sri Rajaiah. The Minister lauded the initiative of the children and pledged to be part of the campaign for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030.
Forty student representatives from different schools, homes and tuition centres around Hyderabad had gathered at Don Bosco Navajeevan, Ramanthapur, to be part of the global launch of the UN initiative to realize the 8 Millennium Development Goals launched in 2000 and ending in 2015.

Action 2015 is to ensure that the UN General Assembly accepts to re-launch the Millennium initiative with its 8 goals which proved to be elusive in a world indifferent to the sufferings of the dis-advantaged as well as to the concerns of preserving the planet itself for the future generations.

The day began with the select group of mostly 15 year olds meeting the Dy Chief Minister and getting his assurance of cooperation for the realisation of 17 SDGs set for a generation or 2030. With the assurance of support from him and other responsible adults in the gathering, they set out to the Tank Bund and made their presence felt against the back drop of the Buddha Statue and the Hussain Sagar Lake. The rally then headed for Charminar, the symbol of the 400 year old city. The rally concluded at Don Bosco Navajeevan where they were received joyfully by their friends.

The children were enthusiastic about being part of the campaign. They could be heard to shout to one another, ''I am Action 2015,'' the words printed on their T-Shirts, stickers and banners. They made their own the three focal goals of Action 2015: We will Make Poverty History, We will Achieve Equality and We will Save the Planet. The programme concluded with their declaring to involve parents, schools and friends in their campaign to achieve the SDGs by 2030.
