Kolkata, Jun. 2. The 35th batch of novices from the Salesian provinces of Guwahati, Kolkata and New Delhi commenced their formation at Nazareth Bhavan, Siliguri on 28th May, 2014 with Fr. Jose Pampadiyil, the vice-provincial of Kolkata presiding over the induction ceremony. There are now 16 in this batch; two more are expected to join this group soon.
The 16 novices who have begun their intense formation process come from four different pre-novitiates with varying ethnic backgrounds.  Fr. Jose Pampadiyil in his introductory words invited the novices to enter into a personal relationship with the Lord which, as he put it, is fundamental to religious life.   He also suggested to them to make ''Nazareth Bhavan'' as their home, a sine qua non for effective formation.

The inaugural Holy Mass and the induction service that followed were attended by Salesians from the neighbouring communities.  The initial days in the novitiate are spent to get familiar with each other and introduce some of the processes which are essential to novitiate formation.

''It's a blessing of God for me to be in the novitiate at Nazareth Bhavan.  I am glad to meet my cheerful superiors'', said novice Hansel Arvind Dutta (INC) who has already completed his philosophy elsewhere and considered joining the Salesians.  Novice Emmanuel Nayak (ING) hailing from the new venture of Missionary Centre in Sirajuli, Assam after spending a couple of days in the novitiate says ''I thank God for bringing me to this place and I am extremely happy''.

Undoubtedly, these two were voicing the feeling of everyone as the novitiate community once again bustles with formative activities.
