Shillong, May. 8. At Sts. Peter and Paul's Parish Pynthorumkhrah, Shillong, the celebration of the canonization of St.John Paul II began at the exact spot on which the former Pontiff celebrated Holy Mass 28 years ago.
At 6.30 pm on 27th April the faithful of the parish assembled at the exact location where Pope John Paul II celebrated Holy Mass during his pastoral visit to Shillong at the Golf Links on 4th February 1986. To mark the event of the visit, which the people of the state fondly remember, monoliths have been erected in the Khasi traditional way at the site. The monoliths along with the citation printed on a granite were blessed by the Parish Priest, Fr. I. Warpakma SDB.

A Procession with candles and dongmusa (Khasi traditional light) was held. The statue of St. John Paul at the entrance to the Parish Church was blessed followed by a one hour Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament inside the Parish Church.
