Kolkata, Apr. 9. .  ROME:  Each day this week the Rector Major, Fr. 聲gel Fern嫕dez Artime, along with the four Sector Councillors, joins one of the regions for the morning Eucharist.  Today (Tuesday, 8th April) it was the turn of the South Asia region to have the Rector Major presiding over the Eucharist. The four sector councilors - Fr. Ivo Coelho (Formation), Fr. Fabio Attard (Youth Pastoral), Fr. Filiberto Gonzalez (Social Communications), and Br. Jean Paul Muller (Economer General) joined him.
South Asia Regional Fr. Maria Arokiam and Fr. Thomas Anchukandam, the Provincial of Bangalore, flanked the Rector Major at the altar.

Fr. 聲gel said a few words at the beginning of the Mass expressing his joy at being able to celebrate with the Provincials and delegates of the region along with the sector Councillors.

Fr. 聲gel spoke in Italian and Fr. Maria Arokiam translated. The Mass was also celebrated in Italian.

Fr. 聲gel's homily was very brief. He said that celebrating together with the councillors was a symbol of the Council's desire to work together as a team, respecting the wishes of the General Chapter.

He presented two basic ideas. First, he said that it is not the Chapter documents that the Provincials and Delegates should primarily communicate to those back in the Provinces, but their experience of the Chapter, especially the experience of communion in the midst of such diversity represented by the Chapter members coming from different parts of the globe.

Second, Don Bosco and the early Salesians are no longer with us. Our time is not the time of Don Bosco. Our challenge is to make every moment in the here-and-now a ''Foundation Moment'' - making alive, re-creating the charism of Don Bosco in a relevant and significant way.

He exhorted the members not to fall into pessimism in the light of challenges facing us, but to write the best pages of our Salesian story at this present moment, making real what Don Bosco would have dreamt and done if he were here today.

At post-Communion Fr. LB Anthony, Delegate from Silchar, sang a Bhajan. Before the final blessing Fr. Angel said that he was deeply moved by the Bhajan and felt very close to God in his heart.

Fr. 聲gel will be joining the South Asia delegation again on Thursday evening for a Get-together.
