New Priests' Day and Perpetual Profession at Azimganj (INC) By Samuel Mondol, SDBKolkata, Feb. 4. On the Feast Day of St. John Bosco, the Parish of Azimganj hosted the New Priests' Day and the Perpetual Profession of two clerics in which numerous Salesians from the district of Murshidabad and Birbhum took part.
Fr. Charles Murmu and Fr. Solomon Rai newly ordained priests of Kolkata Province were felicitated along with Clerics Sudhir Barwa and Irish Besra who committed themselves forever in the Salesian Congregation. Fr. Solomon who was ordained on December 30, 2013 in Sikkim, now pursuing M.Th studies in Bangalore could not be present for the celebration. Fr. Charles was ordained on January 18, 2014 at Joyur.
At 8.00 AM Fr. Thomas Ellicherail Provincial presided over the Eucharist. After the entrance procession, Fr. Suren Hasda and Fr. Samuel Mondol explained to the Congregation the various parts of the Liturgy and the significance of Perpetual Profession in the life of a Salesian, in Santali and Bengali respectively.
The congregation mostly consisted of young people: the boys from the Parish Boarding, Don Bosco Welfare Centre boarders, girls of Shanti Niloy and the aspirants and the pre-novices of Savio Bhavan. The melodious choir consisting of the boarding children added much charm to the celebration.
During the homily Fr. Provincial congratulated the clerics for their bold step and posed them as models to all the youngsters present. He also highlighted the fact that of late we had been getting numerous vocations from our boardings.
After communion, Cl. Irish thanked the congregation for their prayerful support and good wishes. He voiced sentiments of gratitude to their parents, past and present superiors and all those who accompanied them during the years of their formation. He also thanked the community of Don Bosco Welfare Centre and the Parish at Azimganj for hosting the event so gracefully.
The Holy Eucharist was followed by a short felicitation programme at the fa�ade of the Church, compered by Cl. Milan Basak. The boarding children and the seminarians greeted the clerics and the new priests through a variety of items. Relatives of Cl. Sudhir expressed their gratitude by offering garlands and shawls to Fr. Thomas Provincial, Fr. Joseph Pampadiyil Vice-Provincial, Fr. Thekkel Sebastian Rector and Fr. Shanti Soren Parish Priest. At the concluding words, Fr. Charles invited all the boarders to come forward to serve the Lord.
Soon after the felicitation programme Fr. Provincial blessed a new statue of Don Bosco at the Parish campus sponsored by the Past Pupils. A fellowship meal followed.
