Panjim, May. 1. Over 50 priests and shrine full of faithful gathered in the afternoon (3.30pm) to bid farewell to the beloved family member, confrere and friend, Fr. Egidio Fernandes, today(1st May 2013).
The provincial in his homily extolled the multi-faceted personality of Fr Egidio from philosophy to counseling to football. To these ofcourse were added the numerous talents and tangents despite the ailing situation.

The nephew in his final eulogy gave an insight into the origin of the vocation of Fr Egidio, revealing that it was due to the mischievousness of little Egidio that his parents had entrusted him to the Salesians.''I don't know what to do with him, Father, it's better you take him!'' was his mother's remark to the Salesians. And the Rector was more than willing to oblige. Thus bloomed Egidio's vocation. At his ordination Fr Egidio apparently reminded his mother about it, the nephew pointed out.

The meaningful service was followed by a motorcade to his residence 8kms away to Salvador do Mundo, and then after a half hour service, to the parochial cemetery.

Fr Galdino, Episcopal vicar for Religious, and Fr Loyola Pereira, Archbishop's Secretary, were present among many others for the funeral rites.
