Shillong, Apr. 20. On Wednesday, 10th April 2013 a destructive cyclone hit parts of West Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. The most affected villages are Umdang, Porlah, Seinduli, Banglapluh and Nongjri. The parishes of Umdang, Rangblang and Sonapahar suffered much.  Efforts are underway to bring relief to the suffering people of the affected area.
Reports indicate that three people died and dozens of people suffered injury; hundreds of houses were destroyed; school buildings and other public utility centres were also damaged.

Salesian Centre of Christ King Parish, Sonapahar suffered extensive damage. The school roof is blown off; class rooms and furniture totally destroyed; all the tin roof structures of the Parish and the Convent, the teachers quarters etc. turned into heaps beyond recognition. Electricity and water supply are totally disrupted; it may take weeks and even months to restore the power supply.

The affected people are trying their best to cope up with the situation; efforts are being made to mobilize solidarity from the church and religious communities as well as from civil and other concerned agencies.
