Sports Meet at St. Anthony's Hr Sec School, Shillong

Shillong, Apr. 20. St. Anthony's Higher Secondary School, Shillong held its 84th Annual Athletic Sports Meet cum Inter-School Invitational Events at Don Bosco Mini Stadium at Shillong. The Chief Guest Mr. Zenith M. Sangma, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, hoisted the school flag and received the salute from 42 marching contingents of various schools from different parts of Shillong and the four houses of the School. Mr. W.S. Challam, the District School Education Officer, was the Guest of Honour for the Inaugural function.
The winners of the marathon race carried the Olympic torch to the venue of the meet. A colourful drill display by the Anthonians from classes 6-9, and the melodious rendition of the theme song ''Make it Happen'' drew applause from the sizable crowd.

Mr. Sangma emphasised the role of students, the future and hope of the society, in bringing about change and development in the country. He said, ''Sports meet of this sort will surely help students to discipline themselves and to excel in every sphere of life''. The Principal of St. Anthony's Higher Secondary School, Rev. Fr. Bernard Grace Pala SDB, in his welcome address, stressed on the importance of physical fitness as a major aspect of holistic development of students.

Mrs. Ampareen Lyngdoh, Hon'ble Minister for Urban Affairs, Goverment of Meghalaya, was Chief Guest for the closing ceremony in the afternoon. She too highlighted the responsibilities of students to the society as a whole. She thanked the school for having taken such initiatives in inviting many schools and for providing a platform to exhibit their talents.

St. Edmund's Higher Secondary School and Kelian Memorial Secondary School walked away with prizes for March-Past in the boys and girls category respectively. Overall championship was won by Ambedkar House of the school.
St. Mary's Higher Secondary School won the 100 mtrs, 200 mtrs and the 400 mtrs inter-school relay for girls. In the boy's category St. Edmunds and St. Anthony's schools bagged most of the prizes.
