Fr. John Larrea Laid to Rest

Shillong, Apr. 19. The Province of Silchar bade a tearful adieu to Fr. John Larrea on the 18th of April 2013. The funeral Mass was celebrated at the Mary Help of Christian's Cathedral, Shillong. Most Rev. Dominic Jala, the Archbishop of Shillong presided over the Eucharist, concelebrated by Most Rev. Thomas Menamparampil SDB, Archbishop emeritus of Guwahati, Rt. Rev. Victor Lyngdoh Bishop of Nongstoin, Fr. Hilarius Lamare the Administrator of the diocese of Jowai, Fr. Arthur Marak  the Vicar General of Tura, Priests representing the Dioceses of Imphal, Kohima and Dibrugarh along with other 80 priests.
After the Eucharistic celebration, during the final rite of Committal, many persons from various walks of life who had been closely associated with Fr. Larrea spoke in glowing terms about his life and ministry.

Fr. George Maliekal, the Provincial of Silchar province paid rich homage to this veteran Missionary, highlighting qualities of head and heart which so characterized him. he said,''He leaves behind a legacy which would be hard to imitate, but for that matter no less challenging and inspiring.''

After the Eucharistic celebration, the mortal remains of Fr. Larrea was taken to the Salesian cemetery, Shillong, where he was laid to rest.
