Symposium on Pedagogy of Don Bosco

Tiruchy, Dec. 1. More than one hundred and fifty members of the Salesian family congregated at Don Bosco Manikandam to attend the two day symposium on pedagogy of Don Bosco, organized by the province of Tiruchy from 1 to 2 December 2012.
The much anticipated Symposium lived up to its billing with regard to the quality of the papers presented and size of the audience. Five papers presented on the first day by reputed scholars threw light on the different aspects of Don Bosco's pedagogy. The selection of the speakers, ensured there was a good mix of experience and wealth of knowledge.

Fr. John Rosario SDB, professor of Salesiana at Don Bosco Theological Centre, Kavarapettai, presented a paper on ''Rediscovering the times of Don Bosco and his response: Evolution of the pedagogoy of Don Bosco''. In it he enunciated the historical background in which Don Bosco developed his pedagogical system through a series of trial and error methods.

Fr. Jose Kuttianimatathil SDB, professor at Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore, presented a paper titled, The Pedagogy of Don Bosco in India: Attempts and Experiences. It highlighted the pioneering ministry done by the early Salesians in spreading Don Bosco's pedagogy in India.

Fr. Godwin Rufus, professor of English at Karumattur College, doubling up as youth animator at the college submitted his paper titled, ''Changing global scenario and current challenges in understanding youth. He brought out the effects of consumerism and onslaught of media on the youth.

Sr. Margaret FMA, a research scholar presented her paper on ''Relevance of Salesian response'', which elucidated the positive aspects of Don Bosco's pedagogy today in dealing with problems of today's youth.

Mr. Devanesan, professor at St. Joseph's College, Trichy, presented a paper on ''Challenges faced by the educative system of Don Bosco''. He struck a familiar chord with relevant examples and challenged the participants to implement Don Bosco's pedagogical system today.
