Shillong, Oct. 5. St. Anthony's Higher Secondary School, Shillong, together with the Rotary Club of Orchid City, organized a seminar on ''Say No to Tobacco'' on 3rd October, 2012 in the school conference hall. Dr. Varghese, the principal of St. Xavier's School, Nongthymmai, and the President of Rotary Club, was the Chief Guest for the Seminar.  The students of class XII Arts and Commerce attended the seminar.
Dr. Henri and Dr. Raj from Nazareth Hospital, with their expertise, special skills and knowledge, enlightened the minds of the young students regarding the pros and cons of the use of Tobacco and tobacco related goods. The seminar was organized precisely to bring awareness on the harmful effects of tobacco use amongst the young generation.

The seminar began with words of welcome by Ms. (Dr.) K.S. Barthakur, a senior teacher of the school and a Rotarian. Thereafter, Fr. Babu Stephen, the vice-principal of the school, gave the inaugural address in which he highlighted the bad effects that arise due to the constant consumption of tobacco and tobacco related goods. He also exhorted everyone to become aware of the consequences that we need to face while using tobacco, and he urged everyone to say ''No'' to Tobacco and to become promoters of life in the society.

The resource persons, Dr. Henri and Dr. Raj, through their PowerPoint presentation, brought to the notice of the students the ill effects of using tobacco in any form. They highlighted that use of tobacco leads to cancer and also various cardiac and vascular diseases.  They, further, mentioned that it is a proven fact that those who use tobacco continuously lose about 10 years of their life.

The students, after the presentation by the resource persons, got ample opportunities to ask questions and clarify their doubts and speculations regarding the ill effects of using tobacco.  After the seminar many students volunteered to become promoters of life and venture out to campaign ''SAY NO TO TOBACCO'' in their localities.
