Lively welcome for the relic at Pallikonda By Rosy Anthony FMAChennai, Nov. 14. Chennai 14 November 2011: The relic of Don Bosco reached the Little Flower convent, Pallikonda, this noon. The Salesian sisters, teachers, co-operators and students offered a grand welcome. It was indeed a moving sight to see the sisters gathered around the relic to renew their commitment.
The little town of Pallikonda woke up to the sound of firecrackers as the vehicle carrying the relic entered the twon bus stand. The Salesian sisters had been in this place from the 1930s and hence Don Bosco is known to all in this region. The Sisters, teachers, school children, co-operators and the parishners all gathered with flags and balloons to welcome the relic of the saint. Little children dressed up like Don Bosco, Mary Mazarello, Dominic Savio and Laura Vicuna caught the attention of people who gathered all along the route to witness the welcome ceremony. As the school band played hymns in honour of Don Bosco, the procession slowly reached the campus, passing via the Parish Church.
In the Little Flower convent campus, the casket was received by Sr. Rosy Anthony FMA, the superior and the community. The Parish Priest Fr. Anthonysamy blessed the relic. As the relic was placed on the stage, the tailoring girls and sisters performed a Kumba aarathi. This was followed by private veneration by the people as the sisters, co-operators and teachers conducted a prayer service. There were also cultural programmes performed enlightening the audience about the sanctity of Don Bosco. The stick-walking trick performed by Master Annamalai, engrossed the audience, and the crowd rendered a loud applause as he garlanded the relic of the saint who used tricks to attract the youngsters.
It was a moving experience for the sisters in particular as they gathered around the relic to take a pledge. This spiritual intensity of the moment brought tears of joy in many. Sr. Maria Therese, an elderly sister, was moved profoundly seeing the relic of saint. She said it was a God-given opportunity for her to be near the relic of Don Bosco.
