Panjim, Aug. 24. Rt. Rev. Bishop Derek Fernandes, bishop of Karwar was personally present at the state border of Karnataka, awaiting the relics of Don Bosco to his diocese enroute to Sirsi and thereafter to Trasi and Shirva.
The visit of the relic of Don Bosco to the Diocese of Karwar, revealed a new side of the Pastor of his flock. Rt. Rev. Bishop Derek Fernandes, bishop of Karwar was personally present at the state border of Karnataka, awaiting the relics of Don Bosco to his diocese enroute to Sirsi and thereafter to Trasi and Shirva. Hundreds of people gathered along with him, notwithstanding the torrential rain that kept pouring all through the morning. A simple an touching ceremony at the border, after which a brief moment for venerating the relic was much appreciated by the people around who had gathered from the early hours of the morning.
Later in the day, Bishop Derek celebrated the Eucharist at Sirsi at 10am and spoke of the qualities of Don Bosco as a Pastor. Making people aware that Don Bosco was a diocesan priest with a passion for the ministry that God called him in a special way, focused on the young!
The relic was scheduled to leave for Trasi from Sirsi in the afternoon at 2.30pm. Inspite of prior engagements, the bishop waited on road at the last diversion waving his hand as the relic and the entourage passed on! The youngsters as well as pilgrims were edified with the prayerful and loving presence of their pastor, Rev. Derek Fernandes, bishop of Karwar, and his gesture to be a pilgrim and pastor at as many moments possible while the relic of Don Bosco was present in the Diocese. It was truly a formidable boost to the salesians working in the diocese, as well as strengthening of the commitment to work more arduously for the young in the Diocese. Thank you our pastor and friend.
