THE PILGRIM RELIC OF DON BOSCO AT AUXILIUM, PATHALIAGHAT

Guwahati, Jun. 17. Agartala, June 16: The pilgrim casket containing the sacred remains of Don Bosco arrived at Auxilim Convent, Pathaliaghat at 6.25 am for the grand Eucharistic celebration. Fr. Ethelbert Minj, SDB, the Vice Provincial of the Salesian province of Guwahati presided over the Eucharist concelebrated with seven priests. The MSMHC sisters from Udaipur and the FMAs from Pathaliaghat and the SDB community of St. Xavier's Pathaliaghat together with the boys and girls of the Hostels was a crowd gathered to welcome the relic.
Hundreds of people from all the neighbouring villages, led by their leader Atul Deb Barma, a past pupil of Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong was present for the Eucharistic celebration. After his education he came back to the village and started a school for his village people. Later on when the Salesians were able to work in Tripura, he handed over the school and hostel to the Salesians together with the land in 1991.
Today the school is a recognized higher Secondary, with total of over 1200 children.The ethnic mosaic of the region consists of the Debbarmas, the Jamatias, the Molsoms, the Reangs, the Kaipengs, the Chakmas, the Halams, the Hrangkhawls, the Kolois, the Bongchers, the Garos, the Bengalis and several other small groups.
The FMA sisters arrived at Pathaliaghat in 1992 and in the following year the auxilium convent was formally opened. They conduct hostel for the girls, the kindergarten, the oratory and the dispensary; teach in the parish school and do various types of ministries like visiting houses, touring of villages and catechising.
Don Bosco was definitely happy to see the sons and daughters working together for the youth of the area with great enthusiasm, united under his banner.
