DON BOSCO SELING HONOURS DON BOSCO

Guwahati, Jun. 12. Aizawl, June 11, 2011:  Pentacost Sunday 2011 will remain a red letter day for the Salesians, Pupils and past pupils of Don Bosco Seling, Aizawl, about 40 kms away from the capital of Mizoram, as it welcomed Don Bosco, with a solemn concelebrated Holy Eucharist presided over by his Lordship, Rt. Rev. Stephen Rotluanga CSC, the bishop of Aizawl.

The day began with the solemn reception of the relic by the Rector of the Community Rev. Fr. James puthenthara SDB, by paying floral tribute and incensing the sacred relics which is on a 131 nation pilgrimage. The Sun shone bright, the birds chirped and the wind blew in order to celebrate together with the Salesian family gathered in the school premises to honour Don Bosco.
The legendary four voice choir of the Mizo faithful swelled the air to praise God and venerate the educator of youth. They spoke, they danced they sang hymns and they shouted the praises of the saint who is on a pilgrimage to the land of the Mizos.
Rt. Rev. Stephen Rotluanga, CSC, the Bishop of Aizawl was very much the part of the celebration as he joined his faithful in all acts of veneration.
This ecclesiastical unit was established as the Prefecture Apostolic of Halflong by an Apostolic brief  Fit Numquam dated January 17, 1952 and entrusted to the Holy Cross Fathers of the Canadian Province. By his apostolic construction Pope Paul VI Omnium Solicitudodated June 26, 1969, made the prefecture apostolic into a diocese with the Episcopal see at Silchar. Most Rev. Denzil D''Souza became the first bishop of the diocese of silchar. In December 1983, the Northern Cachar Hills district was detached from the diocese and joined the New Diocese of Diphu.
When Bishop Denzil D'Souza went to his eternal reward on 25th October 2002, the New Bishop Rt. Rev. Stephen Rotluanga CSC,  was ordained Bishop Aizawl.
