DBCMaram Celebrates World Women's Day

Dimapur, Mar. 8. DBCMaram ( ): As the world observed international Women's Day on 8th March 2010. Don Bosco College, Maram with the initiative of NSS Unit I and Women's cell organized a short programme to observe the day. Mrs. Ela-a the Child Development Programme Officer  (CDPO) was the guest of honor;  Mrs Jagrte Rana was the chief guest.
Fr P.O Sebastian the Rector of Don Bosco College Maram, Fr Benny James Karianattu, The Principal, Fr. Jerish, Fr. Dilip, Sr Arpita, the program officer of NSS, Sr Rose Mary Kazhia the Vice Principal, Mrs Chuingamphy Vashum, , Mrs. Nongthombam Tombi of Women's Cell graced the occasion.
The program began with an introduction by Febi, the Ass. Secretary, Women's Cell. She emphasized on the deleterious attitude of the patriarchal society and the cultural traditions which respects and values mother and women qualities in deities, but on the other hand abandons and molests women. She also mentioned the approval of 33 percentage reservation for women a great remarkable event in the nation's women improvement. The Degree Arts students sang a welcome song during which the guests were welcomed in a traditional manner with mufflers and badges.
Fr. Benny James, the Principal of the college in his speech focused on the gentle touch of the mothers. NSS Unit I volunteers portrayed the status of women in general and the suppressions that they undergo through a skit. Thereafter, one of the Women's Cell members spoke on International Women's Day.
Madam Ela-a, the guest of honor drew out the differences in the attitude of men and women. She encouraged the women to be educated; self employed and be in her own foot. After that the college boys sang a melodious song. Mrs. Jgruti Rana expressed her views and inspired the girl students to come up with flying colours. The vote of thanks was given by one of the women cell members. It was fitting that we had such a programme to remember and to acknowledge the contribution of women to society.
