Fr George Chalissery Appointed Superior of Zambia Vice-Province

Bangalore, Dec. 16. The Rector Major, Rev Fr Pascual Chavez, has appointed Fr George Chalissery as Superior of the  Mary Help of Christians Vice-Province of Zambia (ZMB), which  also includes Malawi,  Namibia and Zimbabwe.  
Fr Chalissery, formerly a member of the Sacred Heart Province of Bangalore, is currently the Rector of the post-novitiate in Moshi, Tanzania, in the  AFE Province.  He had served earlier as the Provincial of the East Africa Province (AFE).  Fr Chalissery will be installed on 4 January 2011 at Lusaka in the presence also of Fr Guilherme Basañes, Councillor for the Africa-Madagascar Region.
Canonically erected on 29 June 1999, the Mary Help of Christians Vice Province (ZMB) has about 80 Salesians operating in 13 works mainly in vocational training schools, oratories, youth centres and parishes.
The Province of Bangalore rejoices at the appointment, congratulates Fr Chalissery and promises our continued support in his new responsibility.
