Provincial Chapter cranks Sri Lankan Vice Province to address problems

Sri Lanka, Aug. 13.

The 6th Provincial Chapter of the Vice Province of Sri Lanka was held from 8th August to 10th August 2022 in the provincial house, Dungalpitiya, Negombo, Sri Lanka. The theme was "A renewed Vice-Province". There were 34 members who took part in it. Father Susith Milroy SDB was the moderator and the Regional Councillor for South Asia Father Biju Michael SDB addressed the chapter members via Zoom.

The theme "A renewed Vice-Province" sought solutions on how to deal with the challenging situations caused by the Covid Pandemic restrictions and economic crisis which affected the Salesian Missions in the pearl of Indian Ocean.


The 34 Chapter members were aninmated by Father Rasiah Jayaraj SJ, a professor of philosophy and theology at the National Seminary, Kandy. Provincial Roshan Miranda invited him to be also the special observsor for the Chapter.


Father Susith Milroy facilitated the participation of youngsters. There were two meetings held in preparation for the chapter for the young salesians and for the youth of North and South. Seven youth leaders took part in the chapter and presented the way they see the salesians, how they want the salesians to be and what are the challenges they face from north and south.


Father Biju invited the members to be the Good Shepherd like Jesus and to respond like Don Bosco to the challenges of the youth in Sri Lanka. The day after the conclusion of the chapter, the Province Day was celebrated after a gap of two years. Eleven Jubilarians of the past 2 years were felicitated. The dancing and singing of Twinkle, twinkle, little star brought back the nostalic feeling and among them were the veterans who celebrated 50 years of religious profession Father Pieris Stanislaus and Father Ellicherail Thomas. The star of the event was a Salesian Brother Gabriel Garniga aged 79 who celebrated his Diamond Jubilee of his religious life.
