''If it was not for Father U P Sebastian and Father Mathew George, and the kindness of Madam Petra, the miracle of the restoration of my eyesight would never have happened,'' said Darshan Oraon, a 21-year-old youngster after the eye surgery. Darshan hailing from Oodlabari tea gardens in North Bengal had to undergo surgery for his eye for an injury of 33 months old. His insatiable desire to learn to ride a motorbike ended in a tragedy when a speeding motorbike hit him from behind, throwing him off the road and causing severe injury to his face and eye on that ill-fated day in December 2018. . Don Bosco Youth Centre, the educational-recreational hub in Shillong, has turned into a Corona Care Centre for those infected by Covid-19. The Centre became functional on May 6, 2021, under the leadership of its director Father Michael Makri, and assisted by five lay collaborators and the members of the Salesian Family, the Salesian Sisters (FMA) and the MSMHC Sisters. Don Bosco Relief Services (DBRS) - SURABI, of the Salesian Province of Chennai, has stepped into the lives of the poor to alleviate their struggles against the pandemic and the subsequent poverty. DBRS has supported the needy with a ration kit comprising rice, pulses, oil, rava, spices, bathing and washing soaps, Vitamin C and Zinc tablets, 500 gms of health mix and a thermometer. The beneficiaries are 500 beach vendors in Chennai, 27 transgenders, 43 senior citizens in Washermanpet, 23 physically challenged and seven domestic workers with the help of Don Bosco Vazhikatti, Permabur.. A day before International Nurses Day, on Tuesday, May 11, Soumya Santhosh, a home nurse hailing from Kerala, was killed in a mortar shell attack in Israel. The statistics released by the Trained Nurses Association of India indicates that 90 nurses have lost their lives in the fight against COVID-19 across India. The loss could be much more on a global count. We bow our heads before your selfless, restless, dedicated service rendered for humanity, more so in this war against the COVID-19 pandemic.
