We are here to build a new society for the young - RM tells the Press
The Rector Major Fr Pascual Chavez addressed a Press Conference on 3 Feb in Chennai and interacted with media persons from several leading newspapers of the city. Responding to a question on how he saw the situation of young people in the country, the Rector Major said, ``we believe in young people and we renew our commitment to them.`` Referring to the work of the Salesians in Chennai province he said, he was proud of them, because they are not only interested in educating but also in empowering the young, especially the marginalized and the downtrodden ones, to face life`s challenges and claim their rightful places in society.

Rector Major presides over Platinum Jubilee Mass in Chennai
Presiding over the solemn thanksgiving Eucharist, commemorating the 150 years of the Congregation and the 75 years of the Chennai province, the Rector Major dwelt on the implications of ``becoming like children`` (Mt 18:3).

Guarantee the Salesian Culture in communities - RM tells Rectors
Addressing the rectors and leaders of communities in Chennai, the Rector Major Fr Pascual Chavez spoke of the crucial role of the rector in the community. He began by telling them how Fr. Michael Rua was appointed Rector of Mirabello when he was only 26 years old. Young Fr. Rua protested saying he was too young, had no experience, and didn`t know how to be a rector. Don Bosco`s memorable reply was ``Do in Mirabello what you have seen in Valdocco,`` which meant reproducing faithfully the charismatic, pastoral and spiritual experience of Valdocco. Turing to the rectors of Chennai, the Rector Major said, ``I say the same to you today!``
