Glimpses of the Annual Sports Meet of Don Bosco High School, Jorhat
The Annual Sports Meet of Don Bosco High School, Jorhat was held in the school grounds from 14-16 February which came to a colourful conclusion on Saturday, February 16. Mr. Deepak Choudhary IPS, the Superintendent of Police, Jorhat was the Chief Guest and Mr. R. Baruah, the District Sports Officer, Jorhat, the Guest of Hounour.
The students put up a colourful and well performed March Past which was appreciated by Mr. Deepak Choudhary and other guests. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Deepak Choudhary said, ``These are the kind of things that matter these days. Sitting in a classroom and learning lessons may be good academically but here in the open field students learn to cooperate, coordinate, compete and discipline themselves.`` He also had a word for the parents, ``Your children are studying and is in the process developing their intellectual, emotional and physical abilities.`` He also congratulated the School for organizing the programme so well and wished Don Bosco School greater success in the days to come.
The children performed various cultural items to entertain the gathering of about 3000 parents and well wishers of the school. The items showcased the diversity and unity of the country and the colourful cultures of India. The cultural items were interspersed with finals of various sports events like, hundred metres race, tug-of-war, etc.
Mr. R. Baruah while speaking to the gathering said, ``This is the best programme I have attended other than the mega national games organized at Guwahati last year.`` He also said that Don Bosco School has not only best results academically but they also show that they are best in other fields through these programmes.
The chief guest also gave away the prices for winners of the various sports events and the best student awards.
