Dialogue
The second round of inter-faith sharing found us in the precincts of the Druk Sangak Choling Buddhist monastery, Dali, Ghoom. Our gracious host, Lama Ngawang Tenzin Gyatso, ushered us into the main temple of the monastery. After a brief introduction to the temple, the significance of the principal deities, and the Buddhist sacred liturgy including the mask dances performed at festivals, he led us up to the topmost temple of the monastery dedicated to Taradevi. The sonorous chanting of Buddhist mantras that followed lifted us to a level of spiritual quiet hitherto unknown to most of us. Differences melted out by the surge of the common quest for the Unknown, and by the realisation that we are but fellow pilgrims. The diversity of religious observances was more than compensated by the unity of purpose. The initial ill at easiness evaporated before the warmth of mutual appreciation and sharing among the participants – Buddhists, Sai Bhaktas and Christians. It was an ‘inter-faith’ faith formation under Buddhist hospitality and the result, life became dialogue.
