True Freedom BINDS us (to our Obligations)!!

Chennai, Apr. 10. Under the guise of `freedom of the individual` do we not constantly betray our own true freedom that has goaded us to take upon ourselves various obligations in Religious, Salesian and Priestly life?

Living in a world of communication, we constantly communicate wrong values and pointers to the simple people around us. As Religious, as Salesians and as Priests, we have freely and happily taken upon ourselves various obligations that are binding, not from God`s point of view but from our personal side and in the eyes of the society.

Blindly aping the current trends of licentiousness and carefree attitude prevalent in the society and distorting the psychological jargons such as `Freedom,` `The Individual,` `Personal Decision` etc., we may be burying down our own True Freedom that had provoked us during the important moments of our First Profession and Priestly Ordination to take upon ourselves various obligations like Prayer life, community life, Simple style of living, , Meaningful celebration of the Holy Eucharist, life of Detachment, Prompt Obedience to the Superiors, the Recital of the Office of the Readings etc. ? Far more dangerous is the attitude of refusal to listen when others remind us about our duty of fulfilling these obligations.

Our own brothers and sisters at home are convincingly faithful to all those obligations that are demanded by their family life, work place and cultural norms. May their good examples help us to look at all our obligations with a sense of TRUE FREEDOM! May that True Freedom bind us to our obligations.
