The need of the hour: MORE SERVANTS and LESS SERVICES

Chennai, Aug. 21. Today`s world represents a saturated planet where almost all have everything at their disposal. The best of services are offered in all the fields to all the people. Even the so-named poor seem to be in the know-how,see-how and have-how of everything.

In this scenario of an abundance of facilities, what this self-sufficient world is looking for is no more of better services but rather many more of servant-minded human beings who will have to deplete this world of its wounds, emptiness and sores of all kinds that peril the human gender in its essence. This call TO BE A SERVANT in a world that has an abundance of services is the relevant VOCATION every religious in true sense has to pay heed to.

Servanthood does not mean doing some services in the field of education or health care; neither is it to upscale the economic and social strata of the poor. Rather, it is the attaining of the SERVANTHOOD OF CHRIST, the Servant-Master in its totality. The whole personality of every religious has to be cloaked with the attire and the attitude of a servant.

May this Year of Priests make us more of SERVANTS than merley being service-oriented.

Lord! Make me a servant, humble and meek!
