Indian Salesian appointed as Consultor to the Dicastery of Communications, Rome

Pope Francis has appointed Fr. George Plathottam SDB, belonging to the Salesian Province of Guwahati, Assam, India as a Consultor to the Dicastery for Communications. The news came along with the announcement of “Speak with the heart: Veritatem facientes in caritate” as the theme for the 57th World Communications Day 2023. Father George Plathottam is currently the Secretary of the Office of Social Communication of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC). With a doctorate in communication, he has been a journalist and communication professor in New Delhi, before moving to Manila to take up the FABC assignment. 


International Symposium reminiscences 100 Years of Salesian contribution to Northeast India

The International Symposium on the Salesian Charism and Don Bosco in Northeast India was held at Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai, Shillong, on September 20-23, as part of the centenary celebrations of the first arrival of the Salesians of Don Bosco to Northeast India in 1922. The three-day Symposium had resource persons from different parts of the mission from the three Salesian provinces of Guwahati, Dimapur and Shillong.

Don Bosco Job Placement Network, Ranchi, initiated labour market information among the youth searching for jobs and organized six placement drives with job opportunities for more than four hundred youth.

Don Bosco Ranchi aims at decent jobs with safer and secure migration. Youth who are skilled, semi-skilled and un-skilled were provided job opportunities under various job profiles.


Don Bosco College Golaghat Secures ‘B+’ Grade in NAAC Assessment

Don Bosco College, Golaghat, Assam, has been accredited with a B+ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bengaluru. Affiliated with Dibrugarh University and run by the Salesians of Don Bosco, Dimapur Province, the college was started in 2015 and scored a CGPA of 2.70 on a 7-point scale in its first cycle of assessment.

Ángel Fernández Artime, released the book GLOBALIZATION AND GLOBAL FRATERNITY, authored by Father TC George SDB, Professor of Pastoral Theology, Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore, at the meeting of the Salesian Family Major Superiors of the South Asia Region in Goa on September 14, 2022. Copies of the book were presented to Father Biju Michael, the General Councillor for South Asia and Father Clive Telles, the Provincial of Panjim, Goa. Father Jose Koyickal, the Provincial of Bangalore province, presented the book.

Guwahati, Assam, 2022 Sep 11

Assam Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi conferred degrees at the 11th Convocation of Assam Don Bosco University at Tapesia Campus, Sonapur, on September 10. The degrees were conferred on 984 students, of which 472 students received Bachelor's Degree in Engineering & Technology, Arts and basic sciences and 494 students received Master's Degree in various branches of Engineering, Science and Management. Eighteen scholars received Doctoral degrees. Gold Medals were awarded to 36 outstanding graduates with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in each programme.
