Hospitality Project Inaugurated at Nitika Don Bosco

BASE-MoRD projects were inaugurated at Nitika Don Bosco, Kolkata at 11.00 am on July 26, 2010 in the presence of distinguished guests, Salesians, friends and well wishers. The projects are coordinated by Don Bosco Development Society, Kolkata (DBDOC) with the assistance of Bosco Academy for Skills and Employment (BASE) and Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD). Nitika Don Bosco is hosting hospitality training courses in collaboration with Taj Bengal under the direction of Fr. George Myppan, SDB.

DB Tech Launches Plans to Employ Two Million Rural Youth

PARK CIRCUS - Anita Misra at 19 is already a home-maker since her father`s death. She left B.A. honours (Bengali) studies at Vivekananda College Thakurpukur to look after her asthma ridden mother and siblings. Each week Monday to Saturday she leaves her village home at 6.30 am in Maheshthala Block of South 24 Parganas district walking on dirt road for some 30 minutes to catch an auto rickshaw that takes her to Joka. From Joka she boards a bus to Majerhaat Rail station to board a train to Park Circus. On a fortunate day, Anita takes only two and half hours to reach Don Bosco Technical Institute at Park Circus to start lessons at 9.30 am.

Fr. M.A. Joseph Receives Governor`s Award

On 7th July 2010 at 4.00 p.m. Fr. M.A. Joseph - Principal of Don Bosco Siliguri along with 23 other scout officials from the various districts of West Bengal, received the Medal of Merit for meritorious service to the Scout Movement from His Excellency, the Governor of W. Bengal, Mr. N.K. Narayanan, at the 13th Rajyapuraskar Award giving ceremony at the Raj Bhawan in Kolkata.

INC Youth Animators` Meet

The local youth animators of Kolkata Province had two days of animation and sharing on June 11 and 12 at the Provincial house animated by the DBYA SA Team from Delhi. ``The scope of this programme is to appreciate the great ministry being carried out for the young and to make our youth ministry more dynamic and effective`` said Fr. Maria Charles, South Asian Delegate for DBYA. The other members of the animating team included Fr. Joe Arimpoor, Fr. Jayapalan Raphael, Fr. Brian Moras and Fr. Jude Anand, the National delegate for Groups and Movements. 18 youth animators participated in the programme.

Short Seminar on Priesthood at Utrail, Bangladesh

The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, will be remembered as a first ever day in the history of this new parish. Representatives from all over the parish came to the parish centre for a one-day seminar on the topic ``Christian Priesthood according to the Bible``. Fr Robert Mankin, Vicar General of the diocese of Mymensingh animated the one day seminar to the satisfaction of all.

Don Bosco Vidyaniketan Launches Youth Activities

Fr. Jude Sebastian, the Youth Delegate of the Province, solemnly launched the yearly youth activities of Don Bosco Vidyaniketan at Kalyani (INC) in the presence of the youth from Kolkata and Kalyani and the Relgious from the neighbouring communities.

MGN Thanksgiving Day

A Thanksgiving Service was organized at the Messengers of Good News(MGN) Centre Bababasa, Siliguri (INC) on Sunday 6th June 2010. Over hundred young people and several MGN members took part in the Prayer Service and the Cultural Progamme that followed. The event was organized as a Thanksgiving for the MGN Lay Movement started by Fr. George Alakulam in Dharan some 17 years ago being officially accepted by the province as an apostolate of the Kolkata province.

Vocation Camp in Utrail, Bangladesh

2010 will remain a truly memorable year for the new Salesian mission of Utrail, Bangladesh. For the first time a vocation camp was held for young people who had shown interest to join hands with the Salesians to work for young people.
