Fr. Victor Ampanattuvila passes away in Guwahati

Abroad, May. 10. Fr Victor Ampanattuvila, passed away on May 09, 2012 at St. John`s Hospital, Guwahati. He was 79 and ailing for sometime. Fr Ampanattuvila was a veteran educationist and missionary, having worked among the rural poor of lower Assam and Garo Hills with selfless dedication for five decades.

A Salesian of Don Bosco since 1953, Fr Ampanattuvila led a simple and exemplary life. He perfected the Garo language and was conversant in Assamese and Hindi. He endeared himself to the lowly and the least by investing his time, energy and resources for their uplift.
He worked tirelessly for many years in Tura, Damra, Gojapara, Garobadha, Rongkhon, Sojong and elsewhere in the North Eastern region.Fr Ampanattuvila is remembered for his simplicity, missionary zeal and humane approach to life and living.
The mortal remains of Fr Ampanattuvila are being taken in procession from Guwahati via Damra, Mendal and other places where friends and admirers will pay tributes to him.
The funeral service will be held at Tura on May 11, Friday at 02.00 pm.
May he rest in peace - the `good and faithful servant` who served with such dedication in the vineyard of the Lord.
