Guwahati, May. 24. The Shrine of St. John Bosco, Cherrapunjee was the scene of a very moving sight on Sunday 23 May. While the Church celebrated the anniversary of its birth on Pentecost - 14 young men - moved by this same Spirit - decided to give their lives forever in the service of the Lord following in the footsteps of Don Bosco. They came from different parts of India and Sri Lanka. They had charted different journeys and could boast of varied experiences but there is one thing they had in common during that beautiful afternoon liturgy; they were all responding to a Call heard in the silence of their hearts and carefully discerned through years of prayer and personal reflection.
The people present for the Eucharist that was presided over by Rev. Fr. Joseph Almeida - Provincial of the Salesian Province of Guwahati - were very excited to be part of this event. For many of them it was their first time at a ``Profession Mass``. Truly touching was the moment when these young men clad in their spotlessly white cassocks prostrated themselves before the altar, as the congregation called on God and all his saints to be by their side always. Then each knelt before Fr. Provincial `vowing obedience, poverty and chastity for ever`. They were each presented with a cross - symbol of their consecration and mission.

In a world that prides itself on the `instant` and the `new` these fourteen opted for the challenge of `fidelity` and `commitment`. They are in for the long haul. So, all of us their brother Salesians, friends and family wish - Gilbert Bhoi (ING), George D`Abreo (INB), Pratap Damor (INB), Niroshan Jayasuriya (LKC), Linson Louise (IND), Mathias Marak (ING), Jossy Mathews (IND), Albert Sangma (ING), Hubard Thyrniang (ING), Jeremias Tirkey (ING), Rajesh Tirkey (IND), Vijay Toppo (ING), Robin Fernando (LKC), and, Viyan Coonghe (LKC) - a life-time of happiness and joy in the service of the Kingdom. May their lives given in total self-abnegation help many poor young people find true and lasting joy.
