DB Kolkata Selected for German School Partner Project

Kolkata, Nov. 19. German is becoming one of the most popular foreign languages in Indian schools. With the growing number of schools teaching German in India, the quest for partnership programme between Indian and German schools has become the need of the hour. The Schools: Partners for the Future Project or PASCH launched in 2008 by Germany`s Foreign Minister Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier, initiates school students` exchanges all over the world.
This year 41 schools from all over India were selected for the programme.

Fr Siby Vadakel, Rector and principal of Don Bosco School Park Circus signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the Goethe Institut / Max Muller Bhavan, Kolkata, 24 April 2009. With this DBPC was officially inducted as one of four Kolkata schools in the worldwide elite network of German partner schools. German Consul General Gunter Wehrmann attended the ceremony.
``Keeping in mind the modern trends in education we at DBPC feel that the added benefit of the knowledge of a foreign language will open up new vistas of learning and career options for our students,`` said Fr Rector at the inaugural session of German language teaching, 16 November 2009. In the first batch at DBPC there are 32 students (over 200 students had applied) of classes VI and VII.
Ms. Anita Mitra from the Goethe Institut / Max Muller Bhavan, Kolkata conducts twice-a-week German course after school hours on Monday and Thursday.
One of the aims of Don Bosco Park Circus is to form the young, through education into men of competence.
``We at DBPC feel that participating in the PASCH Project will take us closer towards attaining that goal of molding young Bosconians into conscientious and competent global citizen,`` added Fr Siby who will be leaving for a 10 day PASCH Project visit to Germany next month.
Four DBPC Teachers too are being trained in German langauge.
